Happy Sixth Birthday Emma McGregor

Emma’s father, Will McGregor, booked today for her birthday and told me that he and her mother always like to get fun, memorable presents for their children, something that won’t end up in the landfill in 5 years. I had him give some insight into Emma’s life and personality to see which direction I needed to take to capture a fitting photo to hang on Emma’s wall.
Will told me that Emma is always bursting with energy and ready to do anything. They live on a nursery and Emma very much enjoys walking down to the greenhouses to check out all the beautiful plants + flowers. She’s an orange belt in Taekwondo, loves to read, draw, paint, and take pictures with her camera.
She doesn’t like bananas, sprouts, tigers, or hippos but loves her 2 dogs, 1 orange cat, and would love to add some bunnies to the mix. She’s got a new little sister, Lily, who’s 11 months old and I’m sure Emma will be running around the grounds with her in no time, showing her the ropes.
[About this Shoot: I found it very interesting that they live on a nursery and Emma often goes to the greenhouses to view the many plants. I imagine it to be a secret garden type experience. I thought about how I could capture a photo of plants + flowers, especially in the dead of a Colorado Winter, to represent this.
A perfect solution came to mind. There's a Butterfly Pavillion near my house that has an indoor tropical setting of plants and flowers with many different species of butterflies flitting about. I went there yesterday with my girlfriend for the first time. Just as expected, there were many different flowers and butterflies to photograph and I captured this little guy coming in for a landing.]
Happy 1st Anniversary Adam + Tara

Adam and Tara have been laughing together from the beginning. After eloping to the mountains together on skis this time last year, nothing about their first year of marriage has been traditional. And that’s just how they like it.
Today they celebrate their one-year anniversary by packing up to leave on their honeymoon to Belize. They can’t wait to embark on many more adventures together and thank their friends & family for all the support along the way.
[About this Shoot: I met Adam + Tara at Ebin G. Fine park near Canyon in west Boulder on a beautifully crisp morning. This was the location of their reception and the photographer they had scheduled for that day bailed last minute so they never had any proper pictures made.
Tara purchased the day and surprised Adam the morning of the shoot. It was a pleasure meeting them and so fun strolling around the park getting different shots of them here and there.
Mark, a Daily Camera photog, was accompanying us to get some shots of myself working with clients for an article on the oncemany project that is set to run Mar 15th. It was a free for all fun for all.]

Instead of suppressing your symptoms, this time try a Chinese Herbal Remedy that heals

Six Persimmons Apothecary • 840 Pearl Street, Boulder, CO • 303.583.0179
David Scrimgeour has been practicing Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine for nearly 20 years. In 2002, he had a vision to create an apothecary in the true sense of the word—a place where people could come for natural remedies that really worked. A place where people could ask questions and speak with experienced health professionals.
Along with Kathy Thorpe, Certified Classical Homeopath, they created Six Persimmons on the west end of Pearl in Boulder, CO to be just that place. Being a Certified Herbologist, David has spent 19 years refining a revolutionary Cold Remedy product labeled Cold Nip.
While most over-the-counter pharmaceutical remedies aim to relieve symptoms, rarely do they try to eliminate the virus that causes the cold. Cold Nip, including a perfect mix of nearly 20 herbs, combines the most effective natural ingredients to relieve symptoms, boost the immune system, and eliminate the virus. Cold Nip has been clinically tested with significant positive results and no adverse side effects.
Six Persimmons offers acupuncture, massage, facials, and the answers to all your homeopathic questions. David + Kathy are true masters at healing and preventative care. The body is the most precious vessel, treat it right with natural remedies that aren’t merely manufactured claims but proven effective for thousands of years.
Cold Nip should be and I presume will become a staple in every one’s medicine cabinet as the go to remedy for the onset of any cold or flu. Stop by their shop today and pick up a bottle to have on hand for that first tickle or sign of illness.
[About this Shoot: I met David + Kathy at Six Persimmons. We wanted to display the Cold Nip product that they've created. Set atop a beautiful end table with a Chinese rice paper tapestry hanging behind, we put out some of the many herbs that make up Cold Nip on a wooden tray.]
Silhouetted by the Setting Sum
i found a wish coin
washed smooth with
dreams removed.
layed it flat on a granite table,
its matte silver side faced up.
i impressed a thumb print
and voiced the words
the Navajo speak.
the moon cleared midnight
from all past shadows
and said I miss you
with two syllables
that took three years.

[Print Details: This photo was taken at Saguaro National Park in Arizona. The sun was setting and I thought each one of these cactus silhouettes seemed to have a persona. Each subtly saying goodbye before nights darkness left them concealed and never seen again. While you have the choice to present the print in its proper right-side-up position, I recommend the opposite as displayed here.]

Thank you, Insight Designs, for making the intrawebs look awesome

Today marks the 11th Anniversary of Insight Designs and they’ve racked up a hefty portfolio of website and design clients getting here. Founded in 1999, the company started from a pair of award-winning journalists from the Detroit Free Press. While on leave from the Free Press, Beth Krodel + Nico Toutenhoofd decided to experiment with their entrepreneurial skills and fascination of a booming and largely unknown internet.
It worked. Insight Designs, now a team of 12 located on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, CO, took off and has ever since been a firm whose work is highly sought. Needless to say, neither Beth or Nico returned to the Free Press. Being a full-service interactive agency, ID offers world-class design, animation, programming, marketing, and a portfolio of websites that’s just exceeded the 300 mark.
For 6 years they’ve been named to the Mercury 100 which honors the 100 fastest growing private companies in Boulder + Broomfield counties. They show no signs of slowing. It’s about time you joined the new decade, the new century, and let Insight Designs lead the way towards a proper web presence. Check out their stunning portfolio and contact them to discuss your options.
[About this Shoot: I met up with Beth + Nico at their Boulder office. Two personalities that instantly lit up the room and made me feel comfortably at ease. While Java, the office dog and beloved ID mascot, took in some much deserved Z's off to the side, I captured some comfortable couch portraits of Beth + Nico.
We then headed out to the roof for some industrial and flatiron backdrops on a crisp and bright morning. It was such a fun shoot and I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with them both. Through their dedication, hard work, and genuine identity, it's no wonder they've been so successful.]
